Well, another 7 days has gone by in White Mesa. This past Monday, we played some more volleyball and basketball in Blanding. It’s always fun to play sports. Since transfers took place on Tuesday, Elder Hudson said bye to a few people on Monday night.
So, on Tuesday we carpooled with the Blanding Elders to Farmington and I picked up Elder Rigby (from Rexburg, Idaho). this is the make-up of the Elders in our zone right now: 6 from Idaho, 5 from Utah, and 5 from elsewhere. In find that pretty funny. And I’m now the furthest East. Yeah, so Elder Rigby is pretty cool. He’s been in Farmington for the first six months and this is his first rez experience. It’s been fun to see him adjust to the RV/Rez life.
On Wednesday, we had a lesson with a less-active lady on the Mesa who wants to come back. We brought Bro. Lacey with us and it went really well. Yes, living the gospel is hard, but it’s so worth it. We teach that you “receive no witness until after the trial of your faith” and if you give up when the going get’s tough then you never get to see the better days. When we meet with the Mustashes we always talk at least a little bit about enduring to the end. In his words he says “Just keep truckin’ on.”
Oh, and Dave got his new system this week. It’s so gnarly! The week previous we talking to Dave and he’s like “I need bass in my life, man.” So we stopped by and got to listen to a few songs. It’s kinda funny ’cause he’s a DJ and you’d think he’d have super bad/dirty music, but all his music is clean and wholesome. He always tells us “I feel sorry for you all. When I was young the music was original and completely genuine. Nowadays, it’s all about the look and popularity.” He’s great.
All is going well over here. White Mesa has so much potential it’s insane! But, this is a message Elder Rigby shared during one of our lessons this week. It’s in 2 Nephi 5. In verese 10 it says “And we did observe to keep the judgments, and the statutes, and the commandments of the Lord in all things, according to the law of Moses.” So, Nephi’s people kept the commandments. In verse 17: “And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did cause my people to be industrious, and to labor with their hands.” So, they weren’t idle and did work hard. And then finally in verse 27:”And it came to pass that we lived after the manner of happiness.” So, they lived after the manner of happiness! How? They kept the commandments and worked. That’s a pretty simple formula in my eyes for staying happy and it’s one of the reasons that I am happy.
Thanks for all the letters and mail. Here’s the 8th article of faith: “We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.” Yeah! The Bible and the Book of Mormon BOTH testify and teach of the life of Jesus Christ and the nature of the godhead. What a privilege it is to live in a time where we have both available to us!
That’s all. Hope you had a great Halloween. Talk to you later! Take care, love you.
